Polycarbonate
(PC)
Properties
Polycarbonate (PC) classed as an engineering thermoplastic. PC is a strong, stiff, hard material, it is often blended with materials such as PBT, ABS and ASA to achieve various different properties.
Polycarbonate properties are closely associated with metals. With excellent high temperature resistance, up to 140ËšC. The impact resistance is extremely good, and excels at low temperatures. Flame retardance and glass reinforced grades are available. This material is suitable for use outdoors with the added UV stabilisers, however it can crack when high forces are applied.
The colour of the material is transparent so a wide variety of colours can be used with this material. This material can also be ultrasonically welded.

Finishing
Polycarbonate can be machined although care must be taken to avoid scratching. Can be glued using epoxides or hot melt adhesives. For aesthetics the use of silk screen printing, hot foiling or spraying.
