Acetal

Properties

Acetals have good hardness, they are tough and resilient with dimension stability and high impact resistance. This is the case even at very low temperatures. Homopolymers and copolymers have low temperature toughness, rigidity, dimension stability and good electrical properties. Homopolymers have greater rigidity, higher tensile strength, higher flexural strength and a higher resistance to fatigue. Copolymers have a better resistance to hot water, better resistance to alkalis and better long term temperature properties.

The colour of the material is white. This means colouring will need high levels of masterbatch this ideally needs to be polymer specific due to the high processing temperatures. We recommend a black moulding or UV stabilisers will be required for outdoor use.

Finishing

The material is easily machinable. There are few adhesives for bonding but it tends to be by mechanical methods such as snap fit joints, threading and riveting. This material can be ultrasonically welded together. You can achieve the desired finish through the following methods painting, hot stamping, metallizing and electroplating are all possible.
